In June of 2020, the theme of the 51st World Economic Forum Annual Meeting was announced as ‘The Great Reset’ which was held in Davos, Switzerland. This event usually is attended by the world’s most powerful and influential people including billionaires, politicians, and CEO’s from the largest corporates in the world.

I usually never pay attention to any of these type of events where only the rich and powerful are involved. However, one headline that really caught my eye last year was said by Klaus Schwab, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. He is the mogul behind the World Economic Forum that organizes the annual meeting at Davos Summit.

He said this during the summit and I quote;

“You’ll own nothing” — And “you’ll be happy about it”.

When I read this quote, it is almost feel like your great Uncle is telling you off when you were a child and you’re just trying to play with your toys and he tells you to stop playing because somehow you’re annoying him. If you don’t do as I say I'll take your toys away. — that’s how I felt it when I read this quote.

The Davos summit was held back in June 2020, so fast forward to today — with all the new trends about digital products like NFT’s and now Metaverse. I cannot help thinking what if? The NFT’s and Metaverse is the the entry point of us owning technically nothing in the future and be happy about it?

There are so many rich influencers and companies today that are pushing NFT’s down our throats and now recently Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse where everything we do will be online or become part digital. And also the recent announcement from Microsoft and Nike regarding creating metaverse products into their ecosystem.

Imagine people buying Nike shoes without owning the physical shoes. Just the digital imagery of it and it’s going to cost the same as the real ones. It is crazy to think about it that this will happen in the future!

My point being is that rich people will always find a way to cut production costs and keep increasing revenues and convince us the masses to buy everything and make us think that they are worth something. They have already done this with in-app gaming purchases with skins such as games like Fortnite. So the next level version of this I think now is the NFT’s and Metaverse. I believe this is a global scale entry point to sell more digital assets to the masses and a way to cut down on labour and production costs entirely.

I feel like this is what they meant by — “You’ll own nothing” — And “you’ll be happy about it”. Because in reality we don't have a choice. Only certain billionaires and politicians wants us to think otherwise.
